Us
We are Oliver and Kathleen Needham!
Oliver was born and raised in South Lincolnshire, where the land is flat and tulips and pumpkins are the celebrated symbols of his town.
He is the brit.
Kathleen is from Alabama, USA, where the Vulcan is the largest cast iron statue in the world and Chick-fil-a runs through their veins.
She is the girl raised in the South / Grits.
We met in London whilst Kathleen was studying her masters at Kings College University and Oliver was working for technology company All In Media.
Westminster Chapel in Central London is where we first interacted with each other, and after attending the same life group, we became great friends. We got married at Westminster Chapel in July 2017.
Now we live in South London, continue to attend Westminster Chapel, co-lead a life group and both work for international relief aid charity Tearfund.
Adventures
We love going out and doing things together.
Oliver has come up with some creative dates, whilst Kathleen loves going to new cities and countries.
Our adventures are a quick guide to fun and interesting things to do, from wherever we travel together.
If you want to invite us on a new adventure, email oliver@britandgrits.co.uk or ping us a message on Facebook.
Podcast
The story behind the podcast is that whilst we were away on a family camping holiday at the ONE Event in Lincoln in August 2018, Kathleen made her first radio appearance on the radio station Oliver was working on, ONE Sound FM.
Kathleen’s parents over in the USA heard us and mentioned that we should do a podcast together.
Kathleen’s mum, came up with the name “Brit and Grits”, with grits being both a food in the Southern US states, and standing for “Girl Raised In The South”, which is what Kathleen is!
We started gathering ideas of what we could talk about and we got very excited!
The very first episode is us getting to share a bit about what we know about each other’s home cultures, whilst learning a bit more about each other.
